Help with DIY Medal MountingUpdated 6 months ago

We understand that mounting medals yourself can be challenging, especially without experience. Our DIY products are designed for those with prior knowledge in medal mounting, but if you're finding it difficult, we're here to help!

How to Use the DIY Mounting Bars:

Foxhole Medals DIY Swing Mounting Instructions

Step 1: Prepare your medals
Carefully arrange your medals with their corresponding ribbons. Keep each medal and ribbon together. Avoid handling the medals directly until you are ready to mount them.

Step 2: Organise by order of precedence
Arrange the medals in the correct order of precedence. For official guidance, visit It's an Honour. Begin by mounting the far-right medal (as seen from the front), which is the lowest in the order of precedence. You will finish with the highest-ranked medal on the left.

Step 3: Thread the ribbon
Take the ribbon from the first medal to be mounted and thread it evenly through the medal's suspender bar or ring, ensuring both ends align perfectly (and your ribbon is correctly orientated).

Step 4: Pass the ribbon through the mounting bar
Insert the two ends of the ribbon through the back of the Foxhole Medals’ mounting bar (the side with the pin). Fold the ribbon and medal over the top of the bar. Adjust the ribbon as necessary to ensure the correct height. From the top of the ribbon to the bottom of the medal should measure 9.5 cm for Full Size Medals, 5.0cm for Miniature Medals.

Step 5: Secure the ribbon with stitching
Separate the two layers of ribbon in front of the mounting bar. Use a needle and thread to sew the ribbon to the bar through the holes. Begin stitching from the inside of the separated ribbon layers, pushing the needle through the ribbon and out through one of the holes in the mounting bar. Next, push the needle through the second hole, through the ribbon, across to and back out the first hole. Repeat this process three times. On the last pass, tie off the thread securely at the back of the mounting bar.

Step 6: Final steps
Trim any excess thread at the back of the mounting bar. Repeat steps 3 through 6 for each additional medal, working from right to left. Clean all grease, oil and finger prints from the medals with a clean lint free cloth.
